The Sprout of Liberty

By: ThisAmericanCarnage

It has been said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time by the blood of patriots and tyrants” and while this is truth, the reality is not how we see it in her minds eye. We picture a great oak or a giant redwood grown tall and glorious and strong… But alas in actuality, liberty is barely a shrub. She is but a sprout... and so difficult to keep alive. Growing among this grand garden of America, liberty is lost in the forest of forgetfulness. It was our duty to tend the garden… To pull the weeds, to till the soil and water the plants. It was our job to see to it that this fragile sapling that is our sacred liberty was well provided with nutrients and well protected from being tread upon. But we did not fulfill our responsibility. We failed in our efforts to defend freedom, believing her to be able to stand on her own. Beset by weeds and starving for nutrients, crushed under foot and eaten alive by pestilence, our lovely little flower has all but been stomped down and is summarily dying before our eyes. Soon the blood of those aforementioned Patriots will water her well. And well as not will drown her tender form, but not so likely the tyrants.
